If Only
a poem by thenorm
If Only
Once I stood in the Rain
And thought
If Only
I had a raincoat.
Bitter were my footsteps
As they trampled the ground
Splashed in the mud
And spoiled my mood.
Once I sat next to a river
And I thought
If Only
I had a boat.
Angrily, did I throw rocks
Sticks and stones
Into the flowing water.
Then one day I found
I had a raincoat
I had a boat.
I had anything
And everything
I ever needed
If Only
I would open my heart
And believe.
