My Exit
a poem by thenorm
As the road winds
Late at night,
Little traffic
Or confusion
I think of a time
Perhaps a year ago.
The first time
On this stretch
Of highway
My heart leapt for joy
My eyes danced with delight.
'My exit,' I thought,
'Only moments away.'
Zipping by Maitland,
To where I belonged,
My voice betrayed me not
As I called to you
'I'm here,
Which way do I turn?'
Sleepily, you answered,
And guided me home.
For the first time.
For now.
Forever, my love.
Sleepily, you answered,
And guided me home.
