Sometimes, I see you

From across the room.

The words I read in your eyes

Take me by surprise;

They can’t be meant for me.

My heart palpitates

With every step you take.

As I see your language now,

I quickly disallow.

Those signals can’t be mine.

I see you.

I hear you.

Watch you take your leave.

I sit on the ledge

And wonder.

Did I misread you,

Slightly misconstrue

The unspoken words,

Half-meant lies

That seem to ebb in

From the Shadows?

The sun dances

On the River

As I watch you

Walk away.
